Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling pretty cruddy. I hadn't slept well - a phenomenon that is occurring ever more frequently - and felt like I'd been run over by a school bus.
I looked at myself in the mirror for a moment, willing myself to get into the shower and start getting ready for the day. I really really wanted to stay home. I tried to reason with myself, saying things like "it's silly to take off in the middle of the week" and "you'd have to use sick time and you're finally getting it built up again". It didn't work. I went back to bed, after emailing my boss to tell her I didn't feel well. I told myself I'd take it easy and rest all day.
Ha!
I slept for about 30 minutes before Steve woke me up worried that I had slept in. I told him it was on purpose. He had to get up to get ready to go to the base clinic for some lab work. By this time, I couldn't get back to sleep...I was officially awake. I laid in bed, cuddling with the dog Steve had let in, until he was finished getting ready. The dog was ready to go for her morning walk so I offered to take her, thinking Steve was going to be heading out. Instead, we both took her and it was quite lovely walking together in the cool morning.
When Steve left around 8, I headed to Walmart to pick up a couple things. I really wanted some loose exercise shorts to wear around the house and while walking outside, since most of mine are now too tight. I found two pairs, they aren't maternity but they're loose enough that they should fit for awhile, if not til the end of my pregnancy. I bought a few other items then headed home. I really wanted to go for a bike ride but decided to wait until Steve got home to see if he wanted to go with me. While I waited, I started to tidy up the house. I cleaned off the kitchen table, my bedroom closet, and started to work on my side of the bedroom when Steve got back.
He loved the idea of going for a nice, leisurely bike ride, so off we went - after pumping up our tires again since we haven't been riding very consistently. At first, I wasn't sure how far I'd want to go but once we started, it felt so wonderful that I wanted to ride forever. We ended up only riding for about 20 minutes because I knew that it would totally end up wearing me out if I went too much longer, (darn pregnancy!) but that 20 minutes was pretty darn great! I wish I had time every morning to go for a bike ride...without having to wake up before dawn, of course. *smile*
After the bike ride, I continued to tidy up around the house while Steve worked outside a bit. I'd been wanting to rearrange our living room, so we moved furniture around until we found a configuration we liked well enough. It's not perfect, but it's better. We moved the dog's kennel so it's no longer a main attraction, finally!, and moved the baby's bassinet to my side of our bedroom (which was the reason I cleaned that area earlier) and the play things we received from my brother Kevin upstairs to what will eventually be the baby's room. While upstairs, we talked about what we wanted to do to turn the computer room/study into the baby's room. Steve made a list of things to do and earlier today I received a text saying he's done it all! What a great guy!
One of the items I bought at Walmart was a new blanket for our bed. We've been using the quilt my mom made us for our wedding, but lately I've been getting too warm at night, even with the a/c at a fairly cool setting. I found a nice, light, summer-y blanket for a really good price that I really liked and that wasn't too girl-y. When we finished upstairs, I changed the sheets and put the new blanket on the bed. It really lightens up the bedroom, making it a little more cheerful. Now all I need is new curtains to replace the heavy brown ones the previous homeowners left for us. Maybe next month. Then I washed the dirty sheets and quilt.
By this time, I was kind of feeling worn out, so I took a little break while baking tator tots for lunch. When they finished baking, I ate them with the last of the Chinese Chicken salad (mmmm) while Steve ate sandwiches. We watched tv for a bit, until I felt rested enough to go swimming! I've been wanting to go for awhile, ever since Memorial Day when we went with my brother and his family. That day it had been a tad chilly, but yesterday was perfect! I swam "laps" while Steve floated around. We were the only ones using the pool, which was really heavenly. We only swam for about 30 minutes, but it felt wonderful, very rejuvenating.
I hopped in the shower as soon as we went back inside, got ready, then we headed to Lowe's to check out paint samples for the baby room and to look at new toilet seats since Steve broke ours a couple weeks ago. We also stopped at RC Willey's to look at end tables to go with the furniture we bought from my mom a couple months ago. We ended up finding one we liked that wasn't too overpriced. Steve had found a RC Willey's gift card we'd been given by our realtor when we bought our house 2 1/2 years ago, so the price was even better after using it! Steve will pick up the end table today, so it will be home by the time I get off work. Yay! Now we need a lamp to go on it. Maybe in a couple months?
By this time, it was about 3:30 and I was officially beat. My body needed to rest. Steve took the dog out for a quick walk while I read in the living room. We both eventually fell asleep and took much-needed naps until it was time for me to start making dinner. We had Chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan. Mmmm. It is seriously delicious and ridiculously easy to make. I posted the recipe on my food page awhile ago, if you want to give it a try.
I took the rest of the evening off, except for our evening walking of the dog. It had been an excellent day off work. I hadn't rested all day like I thought I would, but I think getting all of those things accomplished was better for me than just sitting around all day. It's a relief to get things off my to-do list, and now our weekend will be a little more relaxed than it would have been. Also, going for a bike ride and swimming were extremely beneficial to my emotional well-being. The best part of the day was being with Steve. He is my best friend and the person I enjoy being with the most in the world. We have so much fun together, no matter what we're doing.
Going back to work wasn't too hard this morning. Despite being a very busy day, yesterday recharged my spirits, so I feel pretty good.
