Steve and I recently made a decision about our future. For several months we've been holding off to decide anything until I graduate (less than 2 weeks away!), which has been killing me because I'm a natural planner. We talked about different options - me working at various places, him staying at his job, me getting a PhD, him going to school to get his Bachelor's, etc. - but we never finalized anything. Until last week!
We're moving to Cedar City!
I am pretty excited, but it will definitely be a little bittersweet. I really love living in Riverdale and have enjoyed exploring the Ogden area and will miss a lot of things about living here, especially the friends I've made here. However, I'm a southern Utah gal at heart and love the idea of raising my son in Cedar City.
The plan is for one of us to find a job first. There is no way either of us feels good about moving there without one, not when we have two mortgages, a car, and a baby. We aren't in a hurry, either. Right now, we have a home we love and Steve has a job he likes and that pays him enough. Steve has already applied for three jobs down south and I applied for one at SUU that got put on hold due to a reorg in the department. We're going on a family road trip the end of May, so Steve is waiting to apply for any more jobs until that is over in case he gets a job beforehand that doesn't let him go on the trip.
Fortunately, our house here is very sell-able. We should easily sell it for more than Steve owes. We'll initially move into my condo in Cedar City. It's comforting to know we have a place to move into asap that isn't one of my parents' homes. I have a tenant in there currently but she's moving out the end of April. We've decided not to rent it out so that we won't have to kick anyone out and it'll be free for whenever we need it. We're fortunate to be able to afford both mortgages on Steve's retirement and salary, but we'll definitely have to be careful with our spending. The plan is to find another place to live after we've been in Cedar for a bit...the condo is definitely not our forever home!
I'm going to keep applying for an Accounting job at SUU as they open. We both realize this won't happen often and there's no guarantee I'll get the jobs as they become available, so we'll be patient. If Steve gets a job in Cedar first, we'll move down there and I'll keep applying at SUU until I get one, staying at home with Matt until I do. When I do, Steve will quit his job and start taking a couple classes a semester in order to earn his Bachelor's of Accounting degree and will stay home with Matt. We'll need to find someone to watch Matt a couple hours a day but I have a few people in mind that I'd feel comfortable with asking...and paying of course. By the time Steve finishes, Matt should be in school and both of us can work. I'd really like to make SUU my career, which is why I'm planning on only applying there. That may change, but that's the current plan.
There are still so many unknowns about moving to Cedar, but I'm happy that we've made this decision. It will be great to live close to my parents and other family. I'm excited to live close to Bryce Canyon and Zions again and plan on taking Steve and Matt there a lot! I'll miss all the fun restaurants we've grown to love in Ogden and the plethora of activities that exist in Ogden and Salt Lake - sports games, the zoo, the aquarium, the dinosaur park, farmers markets, and lots of parks, just to name a few. Luckily, we still have awhile to enjoy them before we move. For all we know, we'll still be living here next year at this time! :)
All I really know is that I'm so blessed to have a future with my family. I love Steve and Matt so much and wherever we end up, whenever we move, whatever we're doing, at least we'll be together.
