His graduation was last Thursday, May 16th. We were supposed to have our OB appointment that morning, but the technician didn't show and we ended up rescheduling for that afternoon. I think Steve secretly hoped that our appointment would take so much time that we would end up missing his graduation. I was determined to make it there come hell or high water. Fortunately, we were able to get to our OB appointment a bit early, so we were able to get started earlier than planned. It was really neat to see our baby and comforting to hear that everything looked good and healthy.
We finished our appointment with a little time to find something to eat, but not enough time to go anywhere good. We had to settle for fast food, not our favorite, and certainly not worthy of a graduation meal. Steve chose Wienerschnitzel's because it was close to his school and because he used to eat there as a kid and hadn't in ages. I had never eaten there that I remembered and I like a good hot dog now-and-then, so that's where we went. I can't say I was overly impressed. It was okay but I've had better hot dogs from 7-11. You'd think a place that is all about hot dogs would have better hot dogs that a convenience store. Oh well. It was food. And the fries weren't bad. I didn't say anything to Steve about the food because I hate choosing a place and then having the other person complain about it. He ended up not loving it either, though. We probably won't be back.
We had to rush a little to get to the school on time but we made it. He went one direction to gather with all the other graduates and I found a really good seat in the auditorium. Steve walked right by me when the graduates walked in (as you can see from the above photo)! We were even able to hold hands briefly as he walked past. I sure was proud of him as he walked in. The rope around his neck indicated that he was graduating with the Accounting certificate. He has two tassels on his cap; one for his academic area and one for being a member of the National Honor Society.
Fortunately, most of the speakers kept their words to a minimum and most were actually pretty good speeches. I was relieved to see only about 50 graduates - the list of graduates since the last graduation was 450+. This school has two graduations a year and Steve was able to finish just in time to graduate in May. If he would have had to wait until November to walk, there's no way I could have convinced him to do it.
I about burst with pride as he received his "diploma". (He received the real one in the mail a couple weeks ago.) He looked so handsome. I sure am lucky to have such a smart, handsome husband! Did I mention that it only took him 3 months to finish the program? They told him it normally takes about 9 months. What a smartie!
Here are a few pictures:
Now that Steve is finished with school, he's applying for jobs all over the place. He has had a few call backs for interviews and we both are pretty optimistic that he'll get a job by the end of the summer, if not earlier.
Congratulations, Steve!
