We parked a couple blocks away from the field in the movie complex parking lot - it isn't safe to park too close in case your car happens to be in the path of a ball flying out of the stadium. As we walked past the stadium, heading to the entrance, we saw most of our team standing around outside on the sidewalk. Kind of unusual. We said hi as we walked by, dressed appropriately in our LA Dodgers gear since the Raptors are affiliated with that team. We were informed that the stadium was out of power but that the game was still supposed to be played. As long as we could still get dinner, we weren't too worried.
We arrived just as the BBQ opened, because I have an affliction that requires me to be on time to everything, so we were fairly close to the beginning of the line for food. Happy for us because we were both pretty hungry. The food was typical ballpark food - hotdogs and hamburgers with chips - and included potato salad and a cookie. I wanted to ask for two cookies but didn't want to look like a pig so I didn't. Steve gave me his, though, so I still got two cookies. Yay!
By the time we finished eating, there was still 45 minutes until the start of the game. Steve rolled his eyes because he had suggested we wait a bit before showing up so that we didn't have to wait forever in between eating and the game. I apologized and he rolled his eyes again; poor guy! *smile* We found our seats then chatted and watched the people around us - one of our favorite past-times. There were some crazies that cracked us up. It was a good time.
At seven, the power was still out. The wind had picked up a bit more and every so often, we'd feel a rain drop. The players for both teams were on the field playing what someone called "Pickle". It was fun to watch them but as time passed we wondered if the game was going to get cancelled because of the power outage. At 7:40, several employees started going around the spectators letting us know that the game had in fact been called off and that we could use our tickets for any other game of the season. We were bummed but not too much. We'd been fed and entertained, more or less, for a couple hours. And, at least the weather was decent - not too hot or cold.
We walked back to our car and headed to the store to pick up a couple things we needed. It started to rain really hard, and we commented on the good timing. How nice of management to call the game before we all got soaked! By the time we arrived back home, the rain had passed so we were able to walk Sadie without getting wet but it was still nice and cool.
It wasn't exactly the evening we had planned, but it was still fun. Luckily, I'm married to such an easy-going man who can make any moment enjoyable, even waiting around for over an hour. Sitting in the stands, in the fresh, cool air, watching crazy people was a whole lot better than sitting around inside watching television or studying for my test on Wednesday. And, we still have an actual Raptor's game to look forward to watching next we
