Ever since we've been together, I've asked Steve to read the Harry Potter series with me. Not all the time, but every so often it comes up and I suggest that we read it together. He's never read them (or seen the movies) and the hype around them killed any desire he might have ever had to read them. So, he has always absolutely refused to read them with me. I think he's being stubborn...he thinks the same about me. I honestly believe that if he gave them a try he'd really like them, especially once he got to the last half of the series.
Sunday night, we read online that at 19 weeks our baby has started to develop it's senses and can now hear our voices. Driving home from class last night, I had the brilliant idea that we should read to Baby every night before going to bed, even if just for a few minutes. As I thought about the lack of kids' books we own (I have maybe half a dozen), I thought about Harry Potter! It would be perfect to read to our growing child, don't you think???
When I got home I told Steve I had an amazing idea and proceeded to tell him about reading to Baby every night. He wasn't ecstatic about it (it's just not who he is), but he agreed to do it. Then I told him what book I want to read.
Crickets.
Bueller. Bueller.
He said no.
Am I taking no for an answer? Not yet! This morning, during our daily phone call, I mentioned how excited I am (because it's totally who I am) to read Harry Potter with him tonight.
His words exactly, "We'll see."
That's not a no. Certainly not a no way Jose!
Fingers crossed!!
That said, it won't be the end of the world if we read something else. I have the Fablehaven series...except book 3 oddly enough. I'm still hoping though.
You gotta have hope.
